The Woman is Lovely
by Mira Daniels
The woman is lovely who dines alone.
People passing often stare—
her glory with the empty chair.
Sitting quiet on her throne,
no one ever looked so fair.
The woman is lovely who dines alone.
In gentle wind her dress is blown
and company could not compare—
her glory with the empty chair.
No discomfort ever shown,
smiling with a mysterious air,
the woman is lovely who dines alone.
Where she comes from is unknown.
The summer evening finds her there—
her glory with the empty chair.
She is no one’s but her own,
with only freedom to declare.
The woman is lovely who dines alone—
her glory with the empty chair.
